Randwick Tips – Spring Champion Stakes – 12th October

Updated: October 11, 2013

Race 1 – Adina Apartment Hotels (Bm85) 2000m – 1:07pm

Race 1 is 3 year olds and upwards. Diamond Jim last up led most of the way when 2nd and was pipped at the finish over the 1900m, prior to that ran on from 8th to finish strongly over the 1800m, gets an inside barrier here and should be right in this. Multilateral is fourth up after a solid win beating home Ecuador last up over 1900m, he showed a good turn of foot coming from 8th on the turn to win by 1/4 length and should be very hard to beat again. Entirely Platinum hasn’t finished outside the top 3 this campaign and has been progressing well, drops 5kg since last effort though is up in grade and hasn’t ran over a mile yet, big query. Marden looks back on track after solid run in a good race when 3rd to Multilateral, gets the rails here and should go straight to the front.

  1. 6. Multilateral
  2. 3. Marden
  3. 5. Diamond Jim
  4. 8. Entirely Platinum

Race 2 – Sharp Plate 1000m – 1:42pm

Race 2 is for 2 year olds. Hard race as all are making their debut. Sweet Butterfly was a $650,000 yearling and is coming off a 2nd in recent barrier trial, ran a fair time and has an inside draw, should be in the finish. Taraneem is coming off a 850m barrier trial win and should get a great run from barrier 4. Double Happy has had two barrier trials, the first was a 3rd over the 900m and then 2nd was a solid win over 800m, query on the gate but has a capable jockey so has the potential to overcome the draw.

  1. 10. Sweet Butterfly
  2. 11. Taraneem
  3. 3. Double Happy
  4. 1. Baio

Race 3 – The Great Gatsby Blu-Ray DVD (B74) 1400m – 2:17pm

Race 3 is for 3 year olds. Tikitour drops in class after a 2nd in the Oaklands Plate then spelled, very successful first campaign (5-1-2-2), prior to his Oakland Plate run, he finished second to Long John who is the favourite for the group 1 Caulfield Guineas, if he can repeat the form from his debut campaign he should give this a solid shake. Earnest Desire is a lightly raced gelding coming off a solid win after two 3rds, beat home favourite and stablemate Chateau Lafaite and gets the gunshot draw. Chateau Lafaite as mentioned was just beaten after Earnest Desire flashed home, gains 1.5kg on him here and an extra 150m which looks to suit.

  1. 6. Tikitour
  2. 8. Chateau Lafaite
  3. 2. Earnest Desire
  4. 3. Gamblestown

Race 4 – Xirrus Sprint (B80) 1200m – 2:52pm

Race 4 is for 3 year olds and upwards. Shelford looks set for a return to the winners circle after a solid start to his campaign with two 2nds and a 3rd, last up 3rd was over the 1200m ran on pace and 3 wide for the entirety of the trip so there should be a drastic improvement getting an inside draw here. Ivory Cognac is coming off a hatrick of wins, the last two were over the 1100m and looks suited at the 1200m, only raced in easier races though has the potential to step up and should get a great trail off Shelford. Angel Bee looks very well placed here with two wins and a 3rd from 4 attempts at the 1200m gets a good gate, beat home Shelford last time but had she had the run of the race and now with Shelford on the inside of her, she won’t get to dictate the race.

  1. 3. Shelford
  2. 9. Ivory Cognac
  3. 8. Angel Bee
  4. 10. Maximilian

Race 5 – Sydney Toyota Hcp (B85) 1400m – 3:27pm

Race 5 is for 3 year olds and upwards. That’s A Good Idea is coming off a solid 5th in the Group 3 Cameron Handicap. Prior to that he won twice, he has won over the 1400m before and has won his only start at Randwick, in which he set a track record, gets an inside draw here should lead all the way. Landing is coming off a big spell, undefeated first up and has won 2 from 3 at the 1400m, has been freshened with a barrier trial which he won back in September, won his only start at Randwick as well, has won 4 from 5 starts. Frozen Rope is resuming after a spell, great first up stats (3-2-0-1) always shows a strong turn of foot in the straight but the big weight is a concern.

  1. 5. That’s A Good Idea
  2. 4. Landing
  3. 1. Frozen Rope
  4. 10. Bombsquad

Race 6 – Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes 2000m – 4:02pm

Race 6 is a Group 1 for 3 year olds. Savvy Nature is coming off a short head 2nd to Complacent where he drew the widest barrier, went back in the field and came home strongly and with the extra 200m, it looks very much in favour of this super gelding who hasn’t finished outside the top 3 in his career. Complacent won the Gloaming last up after a smart run from barrier one, he again has drawn barrier 1. Two wins and two 2nds in his short career and should again give Savvy Nature a battle. Criterion is the class runner of the field and is coming off a 2nd to Eurozone in which he gave the leaders a start coming into the turn last but finished with good sectionals, query is he hasn’t won over 1200m so this will test.

  1. 4. Savvy Nature
  2. 5. Complacent
  3. 1. Criterion
  4. 8. Rock Hero

Race 7 – Myer Spring Fashion Hcp (B90) 1600m – 4:37pm

Race 7 is for 3 year olds and upwards. Our Desert Warrior is fourth up after starting his campaign off with 2 wins and a 3rd, last up 3rd was in the Group 2 in the Shannon Stakes to Rain Drum, he has won at the mile previously and looks well placed in this. Chocie Bro is another gelding coming into this with a good form line when 3rd to Boban in the Bill Ritchie, he looked good coming from 7th, will strip fitter here 3rd up and should be running on strongly. Gangster’s Choice has found some form of late prior to his last up 4th was a winner at this trip/track. Comes into this 2.5kg lighter and gets a decent draw.

  1. 6. Our Desert Warrior
  2. 4. Choice Bro
  3. 9. Gangster’s Choice
  4. 2. Single

Race 8 – McGrath Estate Agents Angst Stakes 1600m – 5:20pm

Race 8 is a Group 3 for 4 year olds and upwards. Sharnee Rose won spectacularly last up when beating a hard field home in the Group 3 Golden Pendant, well weighted and gets an inside gate, extra 200m looks to suit based on her strong run on last up. Gold Epona will strip fitter after a second up 2nd in the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes, looked very good slowly moving up and finishing off strongly, looks well suited at the mile. Cathay Lady comes into this second up after an okay run in the backmarker dominated Tibbie Stakes. Decent second up record and will of likely needed that strong first up start run to help with fitness. Lilliburlero is coming off the same race when 6th, worked excessively hard from a wide barrier and was overrun in the straight, looks suited here and is the class runner of the field, gets a much better draw here and will improve.

  1. 1. Sharnee Rose
  2. 5. Lilliburlero
  3. 8. Gold Epona
  4. 3. Cathay Lady
